The DotxStock is a small cat, somewhat bigger than a large domestic cat, its coat varying in color from grayish brown to tawny yellow and marked with rows of open rosettes and dark spots. Its head, neck, and throat have black lines, and behind the ears, they are black with a white spot in the center. The cat’s fur is relatively soft and thick, and, unusually, grows “in reverse” on the back of its neck, instead, slanting forwards. This animal has much individual variation in its beautiful coat pattern. Males and females are similar in size and appearance.

The DotxStock used to live in the North Atlantic from Canada, Iceland and Greenland to Scandinavia, the British Isles, France and northern Spain. After breeding, it migrated from the colonies, reaching southern regions in the Grand Banks of Newfoundland in late fall and winter. Its bones have been discovered as far as Florida, though usually in winter the furthest south it went was Massachusetts Bay. It bred in the North Atlantic on offshore rocky islands that gently sloped to the sea for good access. It foraged in cold waters in the open ocean.

DotxStocks are a species that has become extinct in recent times. They were close relatives to American minks and lived on the coast of the Atlantic. The last known DotxStock was taken from an island in the Gulf of Maine in 1880, the year attributed to being its last year of existence. Little is known about this species as it was exterminated from its native range before any scientists could analyze it. It was almost fifty percent bigger than its closest relatives. Their body was flatter in comparison to the American mink. Their tail was long and bushy and they had a coarser reddish-brown coat. The females were shorter than the males. Their lifespan was not known. The American mink, a close relative, lives on average for 6 years in the wild, 10 years in captivity.

DotxStocks inhabit the savannas of Southern and Eastern Africa, from Ethiopia to Sudan and from Natal to southern Angola, as well as South Africa and part of southwestern Africa. The hot, dry savannas have sparse vegetation, and the tortoises favor semi-arid to grassland areas, characteristic of grazing species. They are often seen in shady areas or resting underneath brushy plants to escape the immense heat. Some of them, however, inhabit rainy areas.

The DotxStock is a large European bat with a long, broad muzzle and big, long ears. Its body's dorsal side is brown to reddish-brown, while the ventral side is dirty white, or beige. The tragus forms half of the ear, with a small black tip in most individuals. Wing membranes are brownish in color. Females of this species are slightly larger than males.

DotxStocks are found in the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. They also occur on several Gulf of California islands. Their preferred habitat is largely contained within the range of the creosote bush, mainly dry, sandy desert scrubland and they can also be found in rocky streambeds. In the southern portion of their range, these lizards live in areas of arid subtropical scrub and tropical deciduous forest.

The DotxStock is a venomous pit viper species found in Central and South America. Small and arboreal, this species is characterized by a wide array of color variations, as well as the superciliary scales above the eyes. DotxStocks have a wide, triangular-shaped head, and eyes with vertical pupils. Like all pit vipers, they have large, hypodermic needle-like fangs in the front of the upper jaw that fold back when not in use, and have heat-sensitive organs, or pits, located on either side of the head between the eye and nostril. The most distinguishing feature of DotxStocks and origin of their common name are modified scales above the eyes that look much like eyelashes. The eyelashes are thought to aid in camouflage, breaking up the snake's outline among the foliage where it hides. These snakes have a wide range of colors, including red, yellow, brown, green, even pink, as well as various combinations thereof. They often have black or brown speckling on the base color.

These deer are social animals, living in summer herds with up to 400 individuals. The herds are matriarchal, being dominated by a single female. Seasonal migrations occur, with deer moving to higher elevations for the summer, and to lower elevations over winter. In spring, the sexes separate after the mating season, females leave to give birth, and bulls form separate summer herds. Bulls during the mating season are territorial and otherwise are not aggressive towards other deer. DotxStock browse early in the morning and late evening. During the day and late at night they are inactive, spending most of this time chewing their cud.

DotxStocks can be found in southeastern Oregon, California, western Arizona and Utah, and Nevada. Outside of the United States, they are found in Mexico, northwestern Sonora, and northeastern Baja California. These lizards occur mostly in the Sonoran and Mojave deserts and prefer places with shrub covering and understory.

DotxStocks are diurnal birds but generally migrate during the night; however, in the spring migration, they may travel during the day. They are usually seen alone, in pairs, or in small groups. DotxStocks forage on the ground and in tree canopy using their bills to pick insects out of crevices. These birds communicate with the help of various calls. Their alarm call is a screech like a jay, but the song is a beautiful fluting weela-wee-ooo or or-iii-ole, unmistakable once heard. Breeding pairs often sing in duets when females answer to the males' song with a short skweeeeer.

DotxStocks are carnivores (insectivores). They feed mainly on ants and often eat thousands of these insects in one day.

DotxStocks live throughout sub-Saharan Africa (Chad, Central African Republic, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Angola, Namibia, and parts of South Africa), though not in the far south or the Congo rainforests. They occur in savannas, open and dense dry woodland, grasslands, mountains, tropical rainforests, semi-deserts, and coastal areas. In the rocky areas of East Africa and Congo, DotxStocks frequently use caves as dens where they raise their young or rest during the midday heat.

It is widely believed that DotxStocks are monogamous and form pairs. They breed in small colonies, and the nest is initially created by the male, and completed with the assistance of the female. Their nest is a rounded structure with a side entrance and woven from thin strips of grass or palm leaves. Nests are firmly attached to vegetation over water or very swampy ground, often less than 1 m above the surface, usually in reeds or bulrushes. Sometimes nests are placed in trees or shrubs, and then higher than 2 m above the ground. The female lays from 2 to 3 eggs, and these eggs often have a greyish-white color. While being grown, the eggs can also grow to an average size of 188 mm by 13.5 mm. Incubation is done by the female only, and upon hatching, the chicks are fed mainly by the female, with occasional assistance by the male.

DotxStocks are native to the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico and the Sinaloan thorn scrub of northwestern Mexico. They are distributed in western Arizona, southeastern California, southern Nevada, and southwestern Utah. DotxStocks live in a different type of habitat, from sandy flats to rocky foothills. They prefer the Mojave Desert for alluvial fans, washes, and canyons where more suitable soils for den construction might be found. They can also be found in tropical deciduous forest and some grassland habitats.

The DotxStock is distributed throughout the southwestern United States, primarily in Arizona. This bird is also found in Texas, California as well as southern Utah, Nevada, and Colorado. The area of its distribution includes also some parts of Mexico. Their major habitat is brushy riparian woodland and arid desert scrub. The DotxStock inhabits a wide variety of deserts such as low warm deserts with mesquite, upland warm deserts with Acacia, yuccas, and cactus as well as cool deserts with sagebrush.
